The government of Nepal has started the second phase of identity card collection in three other districts including Kanchanpur, Chitwan and Lalitpur with the objective of providing identity cards to all Nepalis. The data collection work has been resumed in Kanchanpur district. In the first phase before, the work of distributing identity cards to about 110,000 Nepali citizens in 75 district, including 7,000 employees of the Ministry of Home Affairs, has been successfully completed.
Yogesh Parajuli Sir, Computer Engineer, Department of Identity Cards informed that the work of distribution of identity cards affected by the lockdown will be started in a different modality than before considering the epidemic of Corona. Parajuli also said that 91 employees assigned for the program have been called to the district administration office in Kanchanpur and given training on how to start work in a new way. According to the new modality, the registration operator will have to go to all the 9 local levels of Kanchanpur and collect the details. The Kanchanpur district administration has informed that it has already coordinated with all the local levels to assist in the success program and as the work of collecting details will start in a few days, the general Kanchanpur residents will be assisted by filling the form of ID card at their ward office.
The Government of Nepal has taken the program forward with the goal of providing identity cards to all Nepali citizens within the next three years.
As both the Nepali Citizenship Certificate and the National Identity Card Management Information System are constitutional provisions, both are used in accordance with the prevailing law. Currently, identity cards issued under the law can be used and utilized according to the relevant law.
